Introduction
Pipe are subjected to expansions
created by different temperatures, pressure, external movements
and from pipe’s weight too.
Where the values of strengths and the movements overcome the
acceptable values, it is necessary the use of expansion joints
that allow to absorb the different thermal expansion.
Some studious of engineering have declared that the employment of
metallic expansion joints is preferred, because their flexibility
absorbs movements in more directions with success, so that there
is a considerable reduction of exercise costs (manpower).
Furthermore the losses of head and thermal dispersions are
contained, with particular benefit to pipes having big diameter.
The expansion joint, to be able to exploit its own functions, must
be chosen and projected according to working conditions.
